    五十九年激情岁月，五十九载春华秋实，伟大的中华人民共和国迎来了又一个华诞。今夜，浦江两岸万众欢庆，展览中心胜友如云。在此，我代表上海市人民政府，向全市人民和在上海工作、生活的海内外朋友，致以亲切的问候！向所有关心和支持上海发展的同志们、朋友们，表示衷心的感谢！
    新中国成立59年来的光辉历程，显示了中华民族不屈的意志和旺盛的生命力。伴随着祖国的腾飞，上海的发展日新月异。在这座充满活力的城市，勤劳勇敢的上海人民正在用智慧和汗水建设自己的美好家园。
    改革开放以来，党的第二、第三代领导集体和新一届中央领导集体对上海的发展始终深切关怀，倾注心血，为上海的改革开放和现代化建设指明了方向。今年以来，在党中央、国务院坚强领导下，上海把树立和落实科学发展观贯穿于各项工作的始终，坚决、积极、全面、有力地贯彻落实中央宏观调控政策，并取得了显著成效，全市经济保持平稳健康发展，各项社会事业全面进步，城乡人民生活继续得到改善。
    沧桑巨变今胜昔，明珠熠熠耀浦江。中央要求上海率先全面建成小康社会，率先基本实现现代化，这是上海的光荣使命。上海人民要紧密团结在以胡锦涛同志为总书记的党中央周围，高举邓小平理论和“三个代表”重要思想伟大旗帜，全面贯彻党的十六大和十六届三中全会、四中全会精神，求真务实，艰苦奋斗，开拓创新，服务全国，向着社会主义现代化国际大都市和国际经济、金融、贸易、航运中心之一的宏伟目标迈进！
